As Summer draws to an end and the cooler weather sets in, its time to start thinking about how to refresh your home for the new season. Here are some of the trends that we love for Autumn/Winter 2018 and how you can achieve them with our range of beautiful Welsh homeware products.
Where better to start discussing Autumn/Winter trends than luxuriously cosy textiles! As always, cwtchy throws and cushions are a simple way to mix up the colours through your home and achieve the hygge (find out more about hygge here) that everyone is striving for, especially in the colder months.
Decorative throws and cushions add visual interest to any room, with a splash of colour, texture and pattern.
Especially for Autumn, we have expanded our range of Valley Mill throws, to include pure new wool, merino wool and alpaca throws. This wide range of knits and weaves, colour, patterns and textures mean it couldn’t be easier to achieve any of these trends in a way that suits your home.
For 2018, there is a big emphasis on Artisan Folk fabrics in the home and Melin Tregwynt throws are the definition of Artisan Folk. Made by hand, the skilled craftsmen at Melin Tregwynt create traditional Welsh doublecloth blankets using traditional techniques and are flying the flag for British manufacturing. At Valley Mill, we stock a small selection of Melin Tregwynt throws and cushions in our Swansea store, as well a huge range on our online store.
Need some help to choose the right home accessories? Here are some key trends for this season, and a selection of Valley Mill products to suit:
Warm tones of orange and reds have always been favoured through the Autumn months, and they aren’t going anywhere yet! Layers of textiles in earthy, natural colours will instantly add warmth to a room; just what you need when the temperature drops.
Looking for a more feminine alternative to the traditional rusty tones of Autumn? Dusty pink is another colour that will add warmth to a room, especially when matched with grey and dark neutrals.
Colour has been bolder in 2018 and Winter colours are no different; deep burgundy, olive and navy will add drama to a room and will be certain to make an impact.
Check & Tartan
Much like rusty Autumn colours, check and tartan fabrics are another trend that always comes back around. Adding check or tartan throws to a room is a classic Winter trend; they will add warmth to a room and create a relaxed, rustic look.
Home trends aren’t just important for choosing colours and textiles; it can be super simple to make sure your entire home decor and accessories are on-trend too!
Mix it up
It is no longer about the simple, sleek kitchen; the exciting new trend is all about mixing it up. Mix different textures in your kitchen in contrasting colours to make a tactile and visually intriguing space.
We think warm blonde woods with textured stone and slate are a perfect blend of materials to achieve this look.
Mixing our Welsh oak and Welsh slate kitchen and tableware will create an on-trend look that is also practical; especially during the party season to cook and serve delicious food to your guests.
There has been a big emphasis on buying handmade in 2018, and as you know, at Valley Mill, we only sell products that are handmade in Wales. Filling your home with handmade products will add a touch of charm and make it feel more homely, whilst helping to support local businesses and makers.
