Next week, the clocks will go back an hour, signifying the start of daylight saving time in the UK. What it also signifies, of course is the beginning of hibernation season for us humans!

Whilst we all love crisp autumn mornings, the colourful woodlands, the sounds of leaves crunching underfoot… when it comes to the evenings, we all find ourselves reaching for the hot water bottles and our ‘comfy’ clothing a little bit earlier than in the summer time.

If you’re anything like us, you’ll be plumping the cushions, turning off the “big lights” and stoking the log burner in a bid to “cwtch up warm” in the darker evenings, but what else can you do to make your house feel more like home?

Here are 5 ways to make your home feel more cosy this autumn and through to the winter.

1. Fragranced Candles

Fragranced Candle

Regardless of the temperature outside, the flickering of candlelight instantly creates a cosy, warm atmosphere inside – and with fragranced candles, there’s an added bonus! They’ve become more and more popular over recent years and for good reason – you can tailor the scent to suit the mood.

Whether you’re having a relaxing evening in front of the fire or a livelier affair with friends, there’s a fragrance to match. At Slate House, we hand-pour seasonal soy wax candles including Roast Chestnut, Holly Berry and Spiced Apple – perfect for the autumn and winter months!

2. Welsh Blankets

Welsh Blankets

There’s something deeply comforting about a Welsh blanket. Is it the fact that many of us were nursed in them as babies? Or simply the unique warmth that wool brings? We’ll probably never know exactly why a Welsh blanket stirs up such a longing in our bellies, but they’ve certainly experienced a resurgence in popularity recently.

Welsh blankets are now being made in an array of modern colourways and weaves. If you’d like to start a new collection or add to an existing one, at Slate House, we stock a wide range of Welsh blankets from Tweedmill in Flintshire, North Wales.

3. Bath Bombs

Bath Bombs

After a long week of frosty mornings and even chillier evenings, is there anything better than a long soak in a warm bath? One way to top this is to replace your bubble bath with  handmade bath bombs from Slate House.

Available in three different fragrances – rose, citrus and lavender, they’re sure to add a touch of luxury to your autumn and winter evenings.

4. NomNom Chocolate

Our current favourite is Espresso Martini – summer is over, so let’s all give in to temptation!
